Sew Shapes Campaign

Are you looking for an innovative and fun activity to directly support Indigenous youth within your province or in Nunavut? Would you care to upcycle your unused fabrics?

We are expanding our Sewcase  program to help ease the work of sewing teachers in our labs, to supply our rapidly growing number of labs, to improve our environmental impact, to better support local economies and to get more Canadians actively involved!

Whether with friends, colleagues, classmates or on your own, here’s how you can help:

1. By supporting a Janome dealership in your province to help us supply our sewing labs with needed sewing accessories.
2. By cutting unused fabrics into basic shapes we can use to build sewing project kits for our students; you can even include a personal note to students with your donation!

Big thanks to Jennifer Tryon and HomeMade in Kingston for hosting Josée from Soaring Circle and our video shoot!

PURCHASE A GIFT CARD

Click the Janome logo on your left and purchase a gift-card from the dealer of your choice, in any amount. Your purchase will help us resupply a lab!

PRE-CUT FABRICS FOR SCHOOLS

(Drop-off dates are February 1-15th and August 1-15th each year; outside these dates, donations can be mailed directly to Soaring Circle)

Download this instruction bundle and print the shape templates.

Check your printer settings *DO NOT SHRINK TO FIT as this will alter the size of your templates. Consider changing your settings to black and white or grayscale to save on ink.

  • Sort through your fabrics (NON-STRETCH cotton fabrics only please!).
  • Make sure the fabrics are freshly laundered or in new condition.
  • Cut the fabrics using a rotary cutter or scissors (rotary cutting is faster and more accurate).
  • Use Ziplock-type freezer bags to package your shapes (one shape per bag, do not mix shapes please), and identify each bag with the indicated template number (ex. S1, S2, etc.), using a Sharpie-type, non-erasable ink marker.

SHIPPING INFO

Include in the bag a minimum $5 donation to help us meet the high costs of shipping to remote communities (if you donate more than one bag, combine your donations and put them in one of the bags)
If you would like to receive a charity receipt for your donation, please go to Soaring Circle to donate online).

Drop off your donation at a participating Janome dealer during the posted drop-off dates, or mail anytime to:
Soaring Circle
P.O. Box 509
Big River, SK S0J 0E0

HOST A COMMUNITY MEETUP

Consider hosting a work bee with your friends, local community group, business or school, or partner with your local Janome dealership!

Working as a group means you can process a lot of fabric in a short time.

It’s a great way to multiply the fun and the impact!

WRITE A LETTER

Consider writing a letter to add a personal touch to your donation and to create a connection with the students who will receive it! We recommend you keep the letter short, and simply tell a story of how sewing, crafting or art of any kind has impacted your life… you may even want to embellish the letter with your art or include a photo of yourself. For safety reasons, please

DO NOT include any personal information (use only your first name, and do not provide any contact information. You can include as many letters as you like!).

WHERE WILL MY DONATION GO?
