Community Visit – Sn’pinktn (Penticton)
Thank you to Summer and Cricket Testawich for inviting our sewing program coordinator Jenny to offer an appliqué workshop for Sn’pinktn (Penticton Indian Band) community members last November!
We shared stories and laughs all while being very productive! This was a multigenerational workshop and we had babies, teens, adults and elders all sharing space. Scroll to see examples of the appliqué designs created by 22 people over 2 days of workshops! Everyone’s designs turned out so beautifully and some sewists even had time to sew their work into a tote! There has been a group meeting up to make ribbon skirts and shirts and now this new group of designers have the skills add their own custom appliqués!
Over the weekend our group shared their many talents and it’s clear that they have all the people they need to grow their program! There will be a group gathering weekly over the winter and spring. Cricket did a great job in bringing everyone together and building support their ongoing sewing and textile art journey!
Big thanks to the Okanagan College for hosting us!
